Eat your greens for breakfast

Green smoothies would have to be one of the biggest food trends of the past year. If you go to any trendy Melbourne cafe nowadays you're almost certain to spot a hipster drinking something resembling pond scum from a jar. Despite being an avid smoothie lover, I admit I was always a bit grossed out at the idea of putting vegetables in my morning blend. This changed however when I realised that all the fit girls on Instagram had something in common – they all have green smoothies for breakfast! I decided there was no arguing with this important piece of scientific evidence so I finally jumped on the bandwagon. The trick is to start with a decent amount of fruit and gradually add in more greens each day. This way you will slowly get used to the taste and it won't be long before you'll find yourself filling your blender with loads of healthy greens and less sugary fruit. Here is my favourite green smoothie recipe, I definitely recommend giving it a go! Ballerina's Green Smoothie
  • 1/2 a banana
  • 1/4 cup frozen mango pieces
  • Handful of baby spinach
  • 3cm piece of cucumber
  • 2 big green kale leaves
  • 3 tbspn of '247 almond & seed protein mix' (or just some raw almonds and chia seeds)
  • Coconut water (enough to blend)
  • A few ice cubes
I have a Nutribullet but any old blender will do. I also like to make mine right before I leave in the morning, pour it into a Mason canning jar (they seal properly), throw it in my handbag and enjoy it when I get to work. Whether your goal is to lose weight, detox, eat healthier, be a trendy hipster or you just want to try something new, I definitely recommend going green. I have my green smoothie everyday and have never felt better!

    That’s a great idea with the mason jar to take, I just thought everyone had them as they also are trendy at the moment. I will definately need to try this. Thanks for sharing 🙂
